• About TFFA

Local 479 is a charter of the International Association of Firefighters, and represents more than 600 uniformed personnel of the Tucson Fire Department as well as the uniformed personnel of the South Tucson Fire Department and the Tucson Airport Authority Fire Department.

Local 479 represents the firefighters and emergency medical service workers of the Tucson Fire Department, South Tucson Fire Department, and Tucson Airport Authority Fire Department.  It was founded in 1936 -- and today, more than 99 percent of Tucson firefighters belong to the TFFA.

We work to promote fair working conditions, continued training opportunities, and financial or other support for our membership in time of need. We also work to organize other firefighters' unions, and to promote a spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood in the Southern Arizona fire service. TFFA is the only Local in Arizona to have a retirees' association, in addition to two chapters (South Tucson and Tucson Airport).

Local 479 is also heavily invested in the community in which we serve.  We have numerous programs and events that we sponsor and/or organize to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Tucson.  A few of these include our Adopt a Family program, Toys for Tots, Community Food Bank, and Climb to Conquer Cancer.  Visit our Charities/Events page for more information on these and other programs that we sponsor.

The Tucson Firefighter Association members have developed a presentation for our Neighborhood Associations or private/community groups to share the how the Tucson Fire Department works for you. Most people do not interact with the fire department and we feel it is important to share with the community all the services we provide. Some of the topics covered in the presentation are who, what, and why of emergency response, also all the services that the Firefighters provide to the citizens of this community including, 911 communications, prevention, and community service. This presentation can be tailored to your Neighborhood Association or private/community group meeting and can be as fast as 15 minutes depending on your time constraints.  We would suggest that you allow at least 30 minutes insuring enough time to answer any questions your members might have.

If you have any questions or would like schedule a presentation please contact TFFAPresentations@IAFFLocal479.org
